We are delighted to welcome you and your child to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) at Springwood. Below is some key information about our EYFS provision. Should you have any questions or require clarification, please do not hesitate to ask a member of the team or contact us via the school office.
Drop-off: 8:30 AM - 8:45 AM
Pick-up: 3:15 PM
Children are offered a fruit snack in the morning. We also provide a 'top-up breakfast' as a soft start for children in the mornings (from Autumn 2 onwards).
If someone we have not previously met is collecting your child (e.g an aunt, or grandparent, etc) please inform the team in advance. Kindly provide the relevant details, such as the designated password. For safeguarding reasons, we are unable to release a child to anyone not known to us without parental permission.
PE Days: Fridays
Children are not required to wear PE kit to school as they will change into it during the day. Please ensure that long hair is tied back and that earrings are either removed or taped at home. Children will not need PE shoes until the Summer Term, and we will notify you closer to the time regarding this requirement.
In EYFS, we embrace outdoor learning, regardless of the weather. To ensure your child is comfortable, we kindly ask that they bring a pair of wellies and appropriate clothing for the weather conditions (e.g., a coat for rainy days, or a hat and sun cream during the summer). Waterproofs and puddle suits will be provided for outdoor activities such as playing in the mud kitchen.
Phonics:
Each day, the children will engage in phonics activities following the Essential Letters and Sounds (ELS) scheme. To support your child’s phonics development, we ask that you read with them four times per week using Oxford Owl. For pronunciation guidance, please refer to the following links:
Mathematics:
We follow the Maths Mastery approach in EYFS, where children engage with mathematical concepts daily. Be sure to check Tapestry for updates on your child’s “magical maths moments.”
Additionally, please ensure your child brings a water bottle each day. A separate juice bottle can be provided for lunchtime.
Library Days: Mondays
Children will have the opportunity to borrow a book from our school library on Mondays. To ensure that they can select a new book, we kindly ask that they bring their previously borrowed book back to school.
We aim to promote healthy eating habits within EYFS. While we encourage a balanced lunch, we politely ask that crisps and chocolate be kept to a minimum in lunch boxes. Additionally, please note that we are a nut-free school, and we have children with severe nut allergies. For the safety of all, please ensure that lunch boxes do not contain any nut-based products.
We use Tapestry to communicate key messages and record special moments in your child’s learning journey. You can access Tapestry by following this link: Tapestry - Log In. If you have any difficulties accessing Tapestry, please speak with a member of the EYFS team for assistance.
Important messages and letters are also sent via Arbor. If you need help accessing Arbor, please contact a member of our admin team, who will be happy to assist you.
We look forward to an exciting year ahead in EYFS and working closely with you to support your child's learning and development. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out!
