  • Sport Premium and Sporting Achievements

    Sports Funding

The government funds Sport England, the organisation that decides how to invest government and National Lottery funding to help people across England create a sporting habit for life.

The Primary PE and Sports Premium is a government initiative designed to help primary schools improve the quality of the physical education, school sport and physical activity opportunities for all children.

The purpose of the PE and Sport Premium is to make additional and sustainable improvements to the PE and sport provision we offer. Schools must use the funding to build capacity and capability within the school so that improvements will benefit pupils now and in future years.

How the funding can be used

In line with Hampshire County Council’s expectations and national guidance, schools can use the Sports Premium to:

    • Hire specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work alongside class teachers.

    • Provide staff with high-quality professional development, resources and training to improve the teaching of PE and sport.

    • Support and involve the least active children by expanding or introducing extracurricular opportunities.

    • Increase participation in competitive sport through inter-house events, local competitions and the School Games.

    • Improve the range and quality of sports and physical activities offered within the curriculum and beyond.

    • Work collaboratively with other schools to share expertise, access festivals and broaden competitive experiences.

For a breakdown about how we have and are using the funding, please open and read the strategy below:

Springwood has been working hard in PE sessions to support and develop our pupils into young athletes. They have developed many skills including co-ordination, balance and agility. The pupils have been challenging themselves to achieve their personal best as well as cheering and supporting their peers. At Springwood we like to give our pupils' the opportunity to compete in Sporting Festivals. These develop children's self esteem and celebrates their participation in Physical Education. See how much fun our children have when taking part in these festivals.
