    MFL Intent

At Springwood Federation, our intent is to promote an awareness of mutual respect, diversity, and global citizenship through a high-quality French curriculum. We aim to foster pupils’ curiosity about language learning and an understanding of French culture, providing them with meaningful and purposeful experiences that connect to real-world contexts.

Our curriculum encourages pupils to develop communication skills, cultural knowledge, and confidence in using French, laying a strong foundation for future language learning and broadening their horizons.

    MFL Implementation

Our French curriculum is delivered using the Language Angels scheme, which provides a structured and engaging programme of study tailored to primary learners.

    Implementation includes:

    • A long-term plan that sequences language learning progressively, covering listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.
    • Thematic units that incorporate vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and cultural insights.
    • Use of interactive activities, songs, games, and digital resources to motivate pupils and reinforce learning.
    • Opportunities for pupils to practise conversational French in authentic contexts.
    • Differentiated teaching and support to meet the needs of all learners, including SEND pupils.
    • Integration of British Values by promoting respect for cultural diversity and encouraging positive attitudes towards learning languages.
    • Regular assessment and feedback to monitor progress and inform planning.

    MFL Impact

As a result of our intent and implementation:

    • Pupils demonstrate growing confidence and competence in using French across the four key language skills.
    • They develop an appreciation of French culture and a positive attitude towards language learning.
    • Pupils show curiosity and respect for linguistic diversity and global cultures.
    • Attainment and progress in French meet or exceed age-related expectations.
    • Subject leaders and governors monitor curriculum delivery and pupil outcomes to ensure continuous improvement.
    • Pupils are well-prepared to continue language learning in secondary education and beyond.
