    PSHE Intent

At Springwood Federation, our intent is to equip pupils with the knowledge, skills, and vocabulary necessary to lead healthy, safe, and fulfilling lives while becoming responsible and empathetic members of society. We aim to nurture resilient, informed, and respectful individuals who understand their own rights and responsibilities and value the diversity of the world around them.

Our curriculum ensures pupils progressively develop:

    - Knowledge of healthy and safe relationships, including how to set personal boundaries and seek help.

    - Understanding of physical health and mental wellbeing, including managing the changes of puberty and the importance of a balanced lifestyle.

    - Digital resilience and media literacy to navigate the online world safely and critically. Economic literacy, including an understanding of money, work, and future career aspirations.

    - Personal attributes such as confidence, self-esteem, and the ability to manage emotions and setbacks.

    - Pupils explore essential themes such as families and friendships, safety in different environments, respecting differences, and belonging to a community to ensure they are emotionally ready for the next stage of their education.

PSHE Implementation Our PSHE curriculum follows a carefully sequenced long-term plan that integrates three core strands: Relationships, Living in the Wider World, and Health and Wellbeing.

    PSHE Implementation

    We implement this through:

    - Detailed medium-term plans that ensure learning is age-appropriate, inclusive, and builds on prior knowledge from EYFS through to Year 6.

    - A safe and supportive classroom climate where teachers and pupils co-create ground rules for respectful discussion.

    - The use of distancing techniques, such as scenarios and story-based activities, to explore sensitive issues objectively.

    - Integration of statutory Relationships and Health Education with the Science National Curriculum regarding the human body and life cycles.

    - High-quality teaching delivered by staff who model inclusive language and remain alert to safeguarding needs.

    - Differentiated support and tailored resources to ensure the curriculum is accessible to all pupils, including those with SEND.

    - Regular monitoring through class journals and pupil voice to ensure the curriculum remains responsive to the needs of our community.

    PSHE Impact

As a result of our intent and implementation:

    - Pupils demonstrate a secure understanding of how to build healthy relationships and treat others with kindness and respect.

    - They apply safety skills confidently, identifying risks in both physical and digital environments and knowing how to report concerns.

    - Pupils show increased resilience and emotional intelligence, utilising strategies to manage their feelings and navigate transitions.

    - Attainment in PSHE reflects strong personal development for all pupils, including those with SEND. Subject leaders and governors regularly review provision and policy to ensure high standards and alignment with statutory guidance.

    - Pupils are prepared to engage with the challenges of the modern world as confident, well-informed, and active global citizens.
