History:
Year 6 are learning about King Richard and the Magna Carta. They had to work in teams to come up with whether they were for or against the signing of the Magna Carta. Some impressive debates took place, with children being able to back up their persuasive arguments.
Guided Reading
One of the texts year 6 has been looking at explained how sky scrapers are built. The children put these ideas to the test using carrots (beams) and paper tubes (columns) to see how much compression and tension they could endure. They even tested whether the columns could take their weight!
Three Little Pigs - Writing
During our writing lessons, we have been focusing on the Cannes Lion Award-Winning "Three Little Pigs advert". This has provided us with plenty of writing opportunities. The children wrote in the role of one of the pigs telling the journalists why it's brothers should be freed. Truly getting into role, they then read their speeches to the class.
Zoolab and Evolution
To support our science unit on Evolution, Year 6 were lucky enough to meet some friendly creatures and learn more about how they have evolved over a long period of time. We related this to the learning we had completed in lessons about natural selection.
Calshot day 3
We have had an amazing day conquering our fears, creating personal bests and reaching new heights.
Day 2
Today we took part in lots of new activities including: cycling, crate stacking, archery, peg pole and team swing. We have all tried our hardest, pushing ourselves out of our comfort zone and conquering our fears.
Calshot 2024 Day 1
What an exciting first day we have had. We have participated in lots of different activities such as skiing, rock climbing, archery and team building. All of us have pushed ourselves to overcome our fears.
Art
Year 6 have begun their art journey to make canopic jars. We have completed research on famous ceramic artists and learnt the purpose for the canopic jars in Ancient Egypt. We have practised drawing the four figure lids before selecting our favourites. We cannot wait to try and make these from clay next week and share our learning with you on 9th December.
PE
This half term, year 6 have participated in orienteering and dodgeball. The school's orienteering course was brand new over the summer so it was exciting to explore the grounds and compete against each other.
Writing
Year 6 have started their learning journey about the text 'King Kong'. They have written love letters from Jack to Ann and will be writing from Kong - which they are very excited about! They are loving the text even if it is a bit emotional at the end.
