Believing is achieving

Jan - Feb

On February 2nd 2023, four girls from Year 5 travelled to Portsmouth High School to participate in a Year 5 Festival of Languages.  Throughout the morning, they received taster lessons in Mandarin, Arabic, Tamil, Gujrati, and Bengali.  The girls were enthusiastic and engaged when playing games and undertaking activities created by the Year 7 pupils and their confidence to try something new grew over the course of the morning. Returning to school, it was clear to see Ivy, Scarlet, Kyla and Olivia had been inspired and better understood the importance of speaking more than one language. Well done girls - you made us very proud!

History – Earliest Civilisations

We have started our new history topic by looking at photos of artefacts in a new museum. We have connected to our prior knowledge to try and make links or predict where they have come from.

Maths – 2D and 3D Shapes

In our first few weeks back after the Christmas holidays, we have been recapping and exploring shapes. We have recalled facts we already knew and built upon our knowledge learning about the properties of other 2D and 3D shapes.

PE

In PE this term, we are playing tag rugby and are using our dance skills to create a Space dance. We are making links to previous invasion games and our space science topic to help us with movement.

Reading and Writing

Driving our reading and writing this half term is 'Fairy Tales' and 'Traditional Tales'. We are making links to stories we already know to help us understand the themes and conventions. We have played charades to help us learn new vocabulary.
