School Ambassadors

EARA Group

EARA stands for Equalities and Rights Advocates. EARA is a group of people who help others to avoid making wrong choices by teaching our federation about equality and rights.

Some of our ambassadors explain why this group is important:

" I think being part of this group is important because it can teach people different reasons why they should treat each other equally"

"I think this is an important group to be part of because we can help make people in the school feel secure"

"I think it is important to be in this group because I can share my mistakes with things I’ve said and help people so they don’t make the same mistakes"

"I am in the EARA group and I want everyone to have the equal rights no matter what they are going through or what they think"

"I have been surprised by the number of other children in other schools who take part in the EARA groups. This is good so we can share our understanding about equality and help each other grow"

We wrote our mission statement after meeting with other EARA members across the county:

As dedicated members of the EARA group, it is our responsibility to ensure all adults and children in the Springwood Federation feel equal and are respected.

We will speak out and take action for any member of our school community who feel they are being discriminated against.

We are teaching others about the Protected Characteristics and that:

  • You cannot be excluded from things because of your age
  • You cannot be excluded from things because of a disability or illness
  • You cannot be excluded from things because of your choice to get married or enter a civil partnership
  • You cannot be excluded from things because you are pregnant or breastfeeding a baby
  • You cannot be excluded from things because of your skin colour or nationality
  • You cannot be excluded from things because of your religion or beliefs
  • You cannot be excluded from things because you are a boy or a girl
  • You cannot be excluded from things because you are born in a girl's body and believe you are a boy
  • You cannot be excluded from things because you are born in boy's body and believe you are a girl

Environmental Ambassadors

This is a group of people who feel passionately about saving our environment making this world a greener one.

Some of our ambassadors explain why this group is important:

“In my opinion, being a part of this group is so important because we need to teach people about why our planet needs saving and how to do it.” – Y6

“I am really happy to be an Environmental Ambassador at school. We meet and talk about ways our school can be more environmentally friendly.” – Y5

“Our group is important because we all have different jobs which need to be done to help the school. I’m in charge of composting.” – Y4

“It’s important because lots of people need some help with what they can recycle.” – Y3

“We are helping to recycle and stop wasting things in our school, like old pens.” – Y2

“We help to recycle and make posters to help people.” – Y1

We wrote our mission statement during one our environmental ambassadors meetings.

As a group of passionate Environmental Ambassadors, we have the responsibility of ensuring everyone in the Springwood Federation has awareness and understanding of how to protect our environment.

It is our job to show people how we can be greener and make sure we all put in the effort to save our planet.

We are currently working on a few projects such as:

  • Recycling paper
  • Recycling crisp packets
  • Recycling old, broken pens
  • Composting
  • Saving energy around the school
  • Offering advice to the community in a monthly top tip

More to come…..

In May 2023, we were very lucky to have a visit from The Final Straw Foundation, who are a charity aiming to minimise the amount of plastic that ends up in our ocean.

Visit the link to find out more about them: https://finalstrawfoundation.org/

We started off the afternoon with an assembly learning about good and bad plastics and what can happen to our oceans if too much litter ends up there.

Some of our environmental ambassadors joined The Final Straw Foundation for a litter pick in our local community.

“I was really amazed because I didn’t think we would find that much rubbish!” –Y3

“We went to the park and near the community centre and there was loads of litter!” –Y4

“Most of the litter that we found was actually things that could have been recycled if it was put in the correct bin. We sorted the rubbish into recyclable items and litter that would have to go in the bin.” –Y5
